What Is Capacitance Bin Level Sensor

The capacitance bin level sensor is used to detect the level of bulk materials or liquids in silos, hoppers and storage tanks.

It works by monitoring changes in capacitance and provides reliable signals for level control, helping prevent overfilling or empty running in industrial processes.

Working Principle of Capacitance Level Sensor

The capacitance level sensor operates based on the variation of electrical capacitance between the probe and the container wall.

The probe acts as one electrode, while the silo or tank wall acts as the ground electrode. Together, they form a capacitor. When the material level changes, the dielectric properties between these two electrodes also change, resulting in a variation in capacitance.

An internal signal processing unit detects this change continuously. Once the capacitance reaches the preset threshold, the sensor outputs a switching signal.

This allows accurate detection of material level, interface level and process control.
